2016: Recruiting Kier Dullea

Kier Dullea portrayed Dave Bowman in 2001: A Space Odyssey. He’s alive and well today, mostly traveling to the occasional ComicCon type event to talk about his famous performance.

Full of hubris, we really wanted someone involved with the original film to cameo for our Christmas remake in some way. Kier seemed like the best target since he remains so active and doesn’t seem to mind his association with the film. So we dug in and spent about a month trying to find a reliable way to contact him and did. Via his wife we obtained his personal email address and permission to email him about “a 2001-related project.”

But rather than ask him to record a little 30 second shoutout video, we went for something much much bigger:
